A tradition beginning in 2022, Chalk the Block is an annual semester kick-off event fostering connections and memories for students and faculty.
I have been in charge of the event since joining Digital Media in 2023, and worked to move the event in a way that would be streamline for students, faculty, and all others involved. We feature prizes annually for some of the best pieces, along with pizza to kick-off the Fall semester.
This year's event was streamlined into 10 different drawing categories that students could sign up for. Students had an hour to draw in as many categories as they wanted, along with competing for "The Best of the Block". Categories for drawings included "Best Animated Character", "Best Original Art", "Faculty Fan Art", and "Best Sonic the Hedgehog".

Students from across various programs on campus attend and participate in Chalk the Block. This year we celebrated with roughly 150 students, most of which were first-year students.
